About the Programme

Work at the bleeding edge of quantum engineering.

Interns invited onto the programme will work closely with our teams and gain experience in the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology. This is a unique opportunity to work at the bleeding edge of technology development, developing new innovative circuits, devices and theoretical methods to tackle the engineering challenges of implementing a large-scale quantum computer in silicon. Interns will gain research and industrial experience working with some of the brightest quantum engineers, IC engineers and quantum computing theoreticians in a cutting-edge research and development environment. Theory Team

Who is best suited?

For applicants interested in the Theory team, we are looking for applicants who are curious, proactive, adaptable and have a passion for quantum technologies. Interns will be pursuing (or have recently completed) a PhD-level degree that includes research in one of the following target areas: $

Hardware Team

Who is best suited?

For applicants interested in our Hardware teams, we are looking for applicants who are curious, proactive, adaptable and have a passion for quantum technologies. Interns may be in the course of pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD-level degree in the fields of Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or any relevant subjects. Strong applicants will have hands-on experience, and/or have attended taught courses, in some of the following areas: $

Experience working in a laboratory environment, programming (Python or Matlab), and strong mathematical and data analysis skills are all beneficial.

QuantumEngineer

We are delighted to launch our Quantum Engineer rotation programme at Quantum Motion. Our early career programme is a unique opportunity to kickstart your profession in industrial quantum engineering. This is an entry-level role with one-year of training for those who want to become a quantum engineer. Successful candidates will join a fast-paced scale-up, be trained by industry leaders, and build experience tackling hands-on engineering challenges critical to developing large-scale, silicon-based quantum computers. Who is best suited?

Recent Masters graduates

We encourage applicants who are interested in beginning a career in quantum engineering and have demonstrated experimental experience and programming knowledge. The position will particularly suit a recent Masters graduate (e.g. MEng, MPhys or MSc) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, who would like to start a career in developing quantum computing hardware.

What can I expect?

Three rotations across our core teams.

You will work closely with and rotate between teams such as Quantum Hardware, IC Validation, and Intelligent Automation. For each rotation, you will be designated a Technical Supervisor. You will also have a dedicated Programme Supervisor throughout the year for mentorship and coaching. During the three rotations, you will contribute to innovative research by working on lab-based projects, such as:

The design, validation, and measurement of quantum devices based on silicon (CMOS) technology.

The design and test of integrated circuits operating at deep-cryogenic temperatures (4 Kelvin and below).

03

The characterisation of superconducting support electronics.

04

The experimental test and development of software for efficient data acquisition and analysis, including software that interfaces with test hardware.

Three phases over 60 months

Your journey is structured into three distinct phases over a 60-month duration, combining academic study with practical workplace competence:

Phase 01

Knowledge & Foundations

(Months 1-18) Focus on academic learning through LSBU, covering theoretical industry principles via lectures and workshops.

Phase 02

Competence & Portfolio

(Months 18-21) Apply your knowledge in the workplace, gathering detailed evidence of your skills and professional behaviours.

Phase 03

Gateway & End-Point Assessment

(Months 22-24+) The final assessment phase conducted by an independent assessor to achieve your qualification.
